Fine fescue, following NZLA calendar after germination
Just started with NZLA. So pleased with my Ultimate Fine Fescue. Scarfied Cored. Seeded then top dressed with lawn soil. I also got the Addicts calendar.(which I have cut up as it is HUGE). Finally my question. Now that the seed has germinated. (In 10 days!!). Do I follow that calendar.
Looking through your journal, you applied All Seasons N+ a few days after seeding. That product is a blend of roughly 70% upfront and 30% slow-release, so with all the irrigation you had running to get the seed up, a fair bit of those nutrients will likely have leached out.
Not the ideal product for seeding, but the result speaks for itself. Fine fescue can often comes up a bit patchy and needs some touch-up seeding, but yours hasn’t, it looks great.
Now that you’ve reduced irrigation, don’t be afraid to get another granular application down. The application guide lines up well from here if you want to follow that.
Go with standard All Seasons this time rather than the N+. It’s got more % slow release and better longevity, you don’t need to be pushing too much growth this time of year. The timing actually lines up nicely with the guide from here.
I’d even consider doing an application of NZLA Starter (granular fertiliser) instead of the All Seasons as it’s get more phosphorus which is great for root development and blended for new lawns.
