Pre-Emergent on Fine Fescue
Just want to confirm my understanding of what pre-emergent can be used for established Fine Fescue.
From what I have read on NZLA it is that the Meso is the only go to solution…
How could this also work in conjunction with getting in a Halo application in also? Specific order etc.
I always get my first granular down beforehand too

Blockade works but then you can't seed for 6 months. Meso can be used on established fine fescue but not at seeding. Keep a decent gap between Halo applications, at least a couple of weeks IMO.

So you reckon that Blockade is safe to use on FF? Not seeding for 6mths isn’t an issue for me as I prefer a March reno.

@Zac Wells Blockade is safe on established FF it's just off label in NZ. Meso is OK for some broadleaf etc but Blockade will stop everything that hasn't already got roots.
@Jonny Hicks What’s the difference then please between Meso and Blockade for FF? Do you need both? I’ve had trouble getting the Halo rate right, so always nervous!
@Aaron Smith Blockade works by inhibiting cell division in emerging seedlings. That includes turfgrass seedlings, so you don’t want to use it when you’re planning to seed or overseed.
Meso is a herbicide with both post-emergent activity and some pre-emergent activity against susceptible weeds. It works very differently from Blockade and can be used around the time of seeding on compatible turf species (not fine fescue though).
The product descriptions on the website are very detailed, so I’d recommend having a read through those as they explain the differences and how each product should be used.
Most people don’t like using Blockade on turf because it prevents them from being able to overseed for around six months. Great product though if you’re happy with the condition of your lawn and want to prevent Poa and other weeds.

@Jonny Hicks jonny I asked in my other post but think I found it here.. with my rye ff blend if I wanted to keep the ff then a autumn blockade app seems like my best defence against winter poa. I think ild rather not etho kill all my ff

I would hand pull those weeds, remember Halo is foreign grass control and won't touch heaps of broadleaf weeds. Still need a good herbicide for broadleaf, NZLA gold works great.
Whoopsie, didn’t mean to confuse anyone with the pic! It was the closest I had for this topic, usually drop Turfclean Ultra down for the broadleafs!
