Grass Weed ID

Hey guys, I’ve been a bit slack lately I’ve just inspected my lawn after a couple of weeks and it looks like it’s being taken over. What is this? It’s a stiff straw like grass with a hardy leaf. App ID says it’s Bermuda? Growing in a tall fescue roll out lawn almost 1yr old. Seems to have popped up very quickly all over the lawn. So frustrating, how do I get rid of jt

Update, done some research sounds like it’s torpedo grass, sounds like a pain in the ass to get rid of

Your grass looks like it’s tall fescue, so these will be the fescue putting up seed heads. I have this happening in mine right now as well. Normal part of the plants lifecycle. Just keep mowing em down

@catchcam are you sure it’s tall fescue seed head? Seems very odd, the stem is almost straw like

@Kieren Thomas it’s hard to tell the scale or size from your photos but yes they do feel like a straw.

They grow more quickly than the rest of the grass, and tend to grow low and sideways so they’re hard to spot.

One sample looks like red stripes near the roots , are they hairy?

Nzsti app, far ute guide, massey uni grass id .
Note the emerging leaf is I think rolled , the beautiful near 90 degrees leaf angle. The ligule is the better id marker . Ai gets it very wrong a lot .
Check tall fescue id markers multiple visible leaf vines, when I zoom in it goes grainy difficult to view , doubtful it's rushing to seed .
Torpedo grass, I did a quick check and states big thick rhizomes.
Meso and etho are options , tedious option of glyphosate painting, gels .
Seed stalk can be bigger leaf than main grass more energy needed.
