Foreign grass ID in my Perennial Rye
Can anyone confirm if this is poa annua or kikuyu? It’s popping up in my perennial rye, feels a bit like a loosing battle against it as I’m pretty good with my pre-emergent etho but it still sneaks in
Have a look at the grass ID post Jonny put up in the grass ID topics. You are not going to get a positive ID off these photos.

@KJ yip seen that thanks. The way it’s ordered the pictures kinda hides the one of a pulled bit of grass, I’ll try to re order them
@jason K It almost looks like a pasture rye, i'm no expert on grass ID but I do know that a common ID is pulling back the leaf sheath, to expose the crown and the very base of the tiller is often purple in colour. The underside of a pasture rye leaf is also normally shiny. I think I can sort of see both those things in that last photo. It would also explain why etho isn't touching it.

In perennial rye grass , etho has post and pre-emergent attributes , caution on resistance forming with prolonged use .

My a.i chat went somewhat ok don't rely on AI as it's a lot incorrect, it reckoned Yorkshire fog but fog grass should present with pink red vertical stripes near base . See attached photo. The super close up of the ligule is often the best marker to id but all facets like hairs or hair less. Crown, roots , seed heads help . Sadly often there's no selective for a lot of grasses in rye . Meso is another option to explore. Nzsti app is ok , far ute guide ,online resources. Sometimes we near get a full id . My other thought is brome or bromus, I think etho gets it's as a none listed by kill . Well worked at my mates place a little too well . Involved a resow . But if it established with etho as pre emergent it probably isn't brome . Look for same leaf , same ligule, with seed head . Some times helps
