Best plan for unfinished ETF renovation and filling gaps

I have reached the point of no return. This weekend I am going to put down my last section of ETF, using starter fert and frost cloth. I have a question around what to do with the remainder of the lawn that has not been prepared for seed (I have run out of time due to the season marching into winter, and an operation next week) this section already has weeds starting but established grass has refreshed itself as well, and I’m guessing there is still grub within the soil profile as I have not treated this section with anything as yet.

Any advice about what I could do to suppress grub and weeds but support healthy lawn to recolonise into the big gaps? I have all manner of unwanted pest grasses including kikuyu. Some areas are worse than others, as I did spray with tricolour a few times on the summer flat weeds and the kikuyu.

I was thinking to blanket spray with Gold? Any suggestions appreciated.

Would like to order products today so they arrive in time for application next week Wednesday.

NZLA renovation guide says if it’s more than 50% weeds or bare patches, kill it off and start again. Spring will be best for this now. You are not going to get any fast growth with soil temps plummeting.

Thanks so much! That answers my question. Should I kill off now, or wait? And what with ?

@stef b what is your soil temps? It is getting a bit late now. By the time you wait for the glyphosate to work we're going to be in winter. Glyphosate takes ages to work this time of the year.

I also have some areas that are 75% of what I deem acceptable lawn. Can’t tell exactly what it is but it’s not summer flat weeds or onehunga weed. There is some kikuyu lurking around but I managed to kill the most of it. I want that gone definitely and permanently too. Thanks so much!

We have high between 17and 19 for the next 10 days and lows of between 11-7 degrees overnight. FYI.

Can apply grub + for 6 months control for grubs.
Shouldn't use gold on under 6 months old grass .

Is that oxalis? The large green triangular leaf ? I'd have to look it up again might in the weed guide.
Kikuyu will take a bit to control, now is excellent timing with glyphosate and sticker , has become known that gold damages to suppression on kikuyu.

Etho and meso as pre emergent is ideal however These 2 can be applied after 2 to 4 mows as post emergent spray out . . Killing weeds before sowing , glyphosate gives 24 to 48hrs before sowing . Selectives give 4 weeks considered safe to resow .

I looked at oxalis control, Nzla gold is mentioned as triclopyr is near the top control list do add likes of Nzla sticker . Looks like a couple of summer grasses or paspalum Im to far south for paspalum to grow . Glyphosate+ gold + sticker will delay sowing by 4 weeks.
I've not used glyphosate+sticker on oxalis.

Pre germination of seed especially etf can give faster establishment.
It is getting cold for a reliable strike rate on fescues. Elfin tall fescue.
