How to fix patchy Tall Fescue lawn

Have grubbed and meso and etho in the last week. What next to eliminate patches please. I have plenty of seed and fertiliser- starter liquid and granules.

Wait for improved soil temps and overseed.

@stef b yes I would lay down the granular fert to get it ready for seed

@stef b add the soil as a light layer (10mm or less) of cover for the seed.

    Hey Steph,

You’ve made a few posts in the forum now that are all very similar, mainly around renovating and establishing tall fescue. There’s been some really good advice in the comments across your previous posts, and I think the general consensus has been pretty consistent.

The biggest thing I’d emphasise with ETF is soil temperature and irrigation. These are two of the most important factors when establishing tall fescue, and no amount of renovation work will make up for getting either of them wrong.

Perennial ryegrass is much more forgiving when it comes to germination and establishment, whereas tall fescue can be a lot more finicky. Once you get it established and growing well, it’s fantastic, but getting to that point does require a bit more research, preparation and patience.

As others have mentioned on your previous posts, I’d really encourage you to follow our renovation guide closely. It covers the entire process step by step, along with our soil temperature blog on the website, which is particularly important for ETF.

Ultimately, the advice isn’t going to change much between posts. It’s really about following those guides, getting your timing right and making sure your irrigation is up to scratch. Those are the things that will make the biggest difference to your results.
