Weed pressure in new fine fescue lawn heading into winter, is Meso ok?

I am aware that Halo and Gold need 6 months establishment before use on fine fescue. However I have a bit of weeds in my new lawn. Heading into winter in Christchurch does anyone have any advice on a meso application now or just wait until spring? Still got a good bit of growth happening

    How bad is it?

The issue with Meso at this time of year is the bleaching. Because growth is slow, the bleaching can take a while to grow out and may look bad for quite a while. If the weeds are really young, I’ve found watering the application in reduces bleaching and is still pretty effective on young weeds. This isn’t a good approach if the weeds are fairly mature, leaving it on the plant in that situation is best.

I’d assess your current growth rate and make a decision from there. Really there’s not much else that’s safe on young fine fescue so spring might be a better option.

@Jonny Hicks as you can see there is a bit. Mowing has helped. Weeds are young so knocking them back a bit would be good

@Tom Wilkinson if it was me I’d use the Meso and just deal with the bleaching. It should grow out before winter.

Just make sure you’ve mowed at least twice before using Meso, it looks like you have though.
