Spring lawn renovation NZ: kill, level, irrigate and reseed with ETF

Hey guys,
After a bit of feedback on my plan with my lawn.

Over autumn and winter I plan to kill off current lawn (~220m²). After this I plan to aerate and top dress entire lawn as it is currently very bumpy and hard. I will be installing a sprinkler system at the same time.
In early spring I plan to seed new Etf.I will probably give the existing lawn another blast with gylco a few weeks prior to seeding.
I have already have my etho and meso preeminent, nzla startstarter (liquid and granular) and have bought Etf seed already.

Is there anything anyone would do different or anything wrong with my plan?

Cheers

The NZLA renovation guide is awesome and breaks it all down step by step, including the products needed. Sounds like you have mentioned everything in the guide. I would personally just do it all in spring. I can't see the point in top dressing and aerating now when you are doing a full renovation in spring. Have you seen this? https://www.newzealandlawnaddicts.com/lawn-tips/lawn-renovation-guide/

@KJ yeah, I based most of my plan around ththe renovation guide.
I guess starting early i thought I would have more time to top dress and install the sprinklers. I have no intention of having any lawn during the time between that and spring

@Benjamin Lakeman I see. It could make sense if you need to find your levels for irrigation heads. You going for MP Rotators?

If I’ve read your post right, I wouldn’t be putting your topdress down too far ahead of seeding. You want it nice and workable and a bit “fluffy” so it creates a good seed bed.

You could do some light sand levelling beforehand while you’re in the process of killing the lawn off. Sand is ideal for levelling a bumpy lawn since it doesn’t break down like lawn mix etc.

A 6 week lead-in for killing off a lawn is usually plenty. I’d go 2 to 3 applications of glyphosate, spaced about 7 to 10 days apart. You can spray right up to a day or two before seeding if you happen to see anything green.

For irrigation, if the budget allows, I’d go with Hunter MP Rotators. Do it once, do it right. I haven’t personally used Pope, but I know a few people who have and they weren’t overly impressed. May have been isolated cases, don't know.

You’re going to love ETF. I’ve got it in the Bay Of Plenty (Papamoa Beach) and it’s such a nice grass. If you’ve got any questions, comment away. I’m a bit of an ETF geek 🤓
