Backyard renovation: Best way to prepare this soil for grass seed?
I have a medium area at the back of my property that the previous owners used as a mixture of green waste dumping, rubbish dumping and left to over grow. I have cleared it out over the last few year and am left with a bit of a mess.
Wanted to add some grass, but it will mostly be for garden beds and some fruit trees. There is a large amount of potting mix style soil, and lots of debris that I was planning to screen out wheelbarrow load by wheelbarrow load.
What would you guys do to get this ready for lawn seed?
Can you get a small digger in there? pull it all out and scrape 50-100mm out and bring in some nice fresh lawn construction mix? That way you'll notice if there's any roots sitting just under the surface. Do it properly, do it once. Then you can level it out and make it perfect before seeding.
