What products can I used after Kikuyu renovation?

I’ve done a bit of a reno over the past week: scalp, scarify, top dress with sand. Kikuyu is coming through OK but I want to take things to the next level. I’ve got the Get Started kit and grub+ in my cart. Anything else I should pick up this time of year?

You’re on the right track with what you’ve done, but timing wise it’s not ideal for kikuyu. It’s a warm season grass, so renovations are best done in the peak growing months, December through February. That’s when it’s actively growing and can recover quickly from a scalp, scarify and topdressing.

Doing it this time of year it will still respond, but it’ll be a lot slower and you won’t get the same result.

Get your Grub+ down and shift your focus more toward soil health products like Root Health, Humic, Restore etc.

I’d look at a granular feed towards the end of March, standard All Seasons is fine. Kikuyu benefits from a feed in early autumn to help carry it through winter and into early spring until growth really kicks again. You’ll generally get limited response from fertiliser through winter and very early spring, so this is the window where it’s actually doing something useful.

At this point it’s still photosynthesising and storing energy in its stolons and roots, and that stored energy is what drives the first flush of growth in late spring.

Amazing thanks Jonny. Yes realise not the best time of year to be doing this, but the thatch build up was driving me crazy! I'll pick up the other bits you mentioned too
