Can I apply PGR before going on holiday?

I was thinking about going a bit heavier with my PGR application as I’m heading off for 10 days on Saturday and it would be good not to come back to an overgrown lawn. If I go max rate how much longer will it last?

Increasing the dose will not make the product last longer, it just increases the level of suppression while it is active.

Pushing the dose higher can also make the rebound worse, so there’s a good chance you’ll come back to a longer lawn than if you’d just run the normal rate.

How long it lasts after application largely comes down to temperatures. You can get a rough idea by using the GDD calculator in the tools section. Set it to 200 GDD days from the date of application and it will give you an estimate of when the product is likely to start wearing off, based on predicted temperatures shown in the graph.

If you’re unsure how to set it up, it’s worth checking the GDD guide on the website, I’ll link that below.

I’ve found NZLA Paclo tends to last a bit longer than standard PGRs in terms of suppression longevity. I still prefer the overall performance of PGR, but Paclo probably has the edge for longevity.
