These providers may process information on our behalf or, in some circumstances, under their own privacy policies.

Where third parties process personal information on our behalf, we take reasonable steps to use providers that maintain appropriate privacy and security protections.

Some third-party services may operate or store information outside New Zealand.

14. Overseas Storage and Disclosure

Personal information may be processed or stored using service providers located outside New Zealand.

  • measure performance
  • troubleshoot problems

Users are responsible for protecting their account passwords and login credentials.

17. Data Retention

NZLA retains personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes for which it was collected, to operate the platform, maintain appropriate business records, resolve disputes, enforce agreements, or comply with legal obligations.

Different types of information may be retained for different periods.

Certain records may need to be retained after an account has been closed, including:

  • transaction records
  • financial records
  • security records
  • moderation records

Public content may also remain in search engine caches, internet archives, backups, or third-party systems outside NZLA’s control.

When an account deletion request is received, NZLA may remove, delete, anonymise, or de-identify personal information associated with the account, subject to information we are permitted or required to retain.

Deleting an account does not necessarily require NZLA to delete information that must be retained for legal, financial, fraud prevention, security, dispute resolution, or legitimate record-keeping purposes.

Where appropriate, historical community content may be anonymised rather than deleted so that forum discussions and community resources remain understandable.

Information retained in system backups may remain until those backups are overwritten or deleted through normal retention processes.

19. Accessing and Correcting Your Information

Under the Privacy Act 2020, you may have the right to request access to personal information NZLA holds about you and request correction of information you believe is inaccurate.

You may be able to update some information directly through your account.

For other access or correction requests, contact NZLA using the details below.

We may need to verify your identity before providing access to personal information.

20. Marketing Communications

NZLA may use contact information to communicate with users about NZLA products, services, promotions, platform updates, or other relevant information where permitted by law.

Where applicable, marketing emails will provide an unsubscribe mechanism.

Unsubscribing from marketing communications does not necessarily prevent NZLA from sending essential transactional, account, security, subscription, or service communications.

21. Children’s Privacy

NZLA accounts and subscriber features are intended for users aged 16 years or older.

NZLA does not knowingly seek to collect personal information from children under the minimum account age.

If we become aware that an account has been created contrary to our age requirements, we may take steps to restrict or remove the account and associated information.
